To quote a very respected individual in the wider MNV community who responded to this question: "I've been wondering the same thing.... [but] I don't want to get eaten alive by the die-hard bleed-blues for asking such kefira " Nevertheless, this post goes out to you Anonymous Respected Individual. What do you guys think?? Can we reuse MaNaVu tunes for alma maters, cheer songs etc as we move on to other (inferior) camps??? Keep in mind, Camp Rayim stole "Powerful Emotions"

Pp, have been doing it for years. Devi streicher used powerful emotion in rayim. It's actually funny by I have a friend in heller whom I told just last night that the odds are his alma matter this year will be an old manavu one. I still think it's a no can do. 1st of all where's the originality? If you can't write an alma mater then don't write an alma matter. Tunes are tunes we've probably reused some. Into my Hebrew song this year was an old alma matter (birchas habayis) but that's still different. Use the tune not the words

This happens to be a great question though. Here's the question do story lines have the same issue? I used a n old story from a different camp this past summer although..we did a much better job

Ari of course you can use a tune that was used in mnv, but obviously you cant use the same words. most camps use the same tunes as other camps. The gadlus of a mnv alama mater and frankly all our other songs is the words. Yes you obviously want a great tune, but the words are obviously the "key" (pun....yes). Rayim was an obvious embarresmant for them. so for all you guys who decide to reuse mnv words, think twice....a mnv song will always be a mnv song.

I personally wouldn't even reuse a tune. It would just feel so fake. How can you be in a new camp and write songs that remind you of MaNaVu? It's not a question of stealing; I just kind of laughed when I heard that someone had "borrowed" Powerful Emotion. I simply don't get how you can feel fine singing about Heller when in your heart the song is a MaNaVu song. A cheer from neighborhood day that you can hear without automatically thinking about MNV is fine, but I wouldn't use anything that feels like MaNaVu in any other camp.
PS. Nobody even asked if it's mutar to bichlal go to another camp... צריך עיון.
